Rocklin Police launch new camera registration program to increase public safety

ROCKLIN – Rocklin police are promoting a new program they say will make the community safer.

The police are now asking the public to register their home surveillance cameras in their database.

Police said it will help law enforcement respond to criminal activity and emergency situations.

The service is free and completely confidential. It is not a way for the police to monitor your home, but rather a way to simplify the process by which the police can request video if a crime or emergency occurs near your home.

“If we know where these cameras are, when something happens, we can look in a particular area to see if one of these cameras may have captured something that we wouldn’t have normally known about,” said Captain Chad Morris.

The program follows a recent study by SafeWise that identified Rocklin as one of the top 10 safest cities in California.

According to FBI data, there are fewer than 1.1 violent crimes and 13 property crimes per 1,000 residents, numbers well below the state and national averages. Rocklin police say this program will only help continue that trend.

Further information about the program can be found online.
