Fatal collision in Red Bluff claims one life; investigation ongoing

The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) reports a fatal collision that occurred around 1:36 p.m. Friday.

According to RBPD, officers were dispatched to South Jackson Street near Snow Mountain Way for a traffic accident. Upon arrival, they found two vehicles blocking South Jackson Street with the drivers still inside.

Rescue shears were used to free the people from the vehicles.

Investigation revealed that a male driver in a 2017 Ford Escape was traveling southbound on South Jackson Street when, for reasons currently unknown, he collided with a Honda SUV traveling northbound.

According to RBPD, the driver of the Honda was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the driver, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced deceased. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time until next of kin are notified.

The driver of the Ford, an 18-year-old man, was also taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where his condition is stabilized, according to RBPD.
