Joint investigation leads to drug trafficking arrest and drug seizure in Logan County, KY

LOGAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Members of several law enforcement agencies in Kentucky joined forces for an investigation that uncovered thousands of fentanyl pills, as well as marijuana, weapons and more than $20,000.

As part of an ongoing joint investigation with the Kentucky State Police and the South-Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, detectives from the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for the Auburn home of 20-year-old Timothy W. Smotherman.

The search warrant was executed in the 1100 block of Procter Mill Drive at around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10. Authorities said they forced their way into the home while Smotherman was flushing fentanyl down the toilet to destroy evidence.

According to officials, more than 2,000 fentanyl pills were seized during the investigation into Smotherman. In addition, officials reportedly seized 82 fentanyl pills, more than 10 pounds of marijuana, two handguns, a money counter, a vacuum bag sealer and $23,713 in cash from the suspect’s home.

Following the discovery of the above items, authorities said they arrested Smotherman for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, a Class B felony), trafficking more than five pounds of marijuana (a Class D felony), and tampering with evidence (a Class D felony), but additional charges are likely in the near future.

Officials said Smotherman will be held in the Logan County Jail pending arraignment in Logan County District Court.
