Simmesport police officer arrested for serious burglary

SIMMESPORT, La. (WNTZ) – On July 11, 2024, the Simmesport Police Department (SPD) requested that the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office (LSP AFO) investigate a break-in at their headquarters. SPD confirmed that the department was missing three (3) firearms, a bulletproof vest, and a mobile radio.

As a result of the investigation and the information received It was revealed that SPD officer Kentravious Prater stole the items listed above.


On July 11, 2024, the LSP AFO obtained an arrest warrant against Prater. The LSP AFO arrested Prater for aggravated burglary, possession of stolen firearms, possession of stolen property, damage to property and abuse of office. Prater was subsequently taken to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Jail.
