Three victims honored at Wise HS memorial service

On Friday evening, the lives of three young men from Prince George’s County were remembered.

Khyree Jackson, AJ Lytton Jr. and Isaiah Hazel died in a car accident last weekend.

On Friday night, a pastor, coaches, politicians and family members remembered and honored these three young men, filling Wise’s basketball gym behind me to pay their final respects.

Three grieving families honored the lives of Khyree Jackson, AJ Lytton Jr. and Isaiah Hazel with T-shirts that read “Rest in Peace DMV Legends.”

“Tonight I mourn and remember some good times. I send my condolences,” said one attendee.

Their printed jerseys and a touching commemorative poster depicting them in their uniforms honored the best friends and former teammates of the 2016 Dr. Henry A. Wise High School championship football team.

“Together, they praised, supported and pushed each other. Whether they were together or apart, they always pushed each other forward,” said their high school head coach Steve Rapp.

Khyree Jackson, a defensive back, had just signed a multimillion-dollar contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Maryland head coach Mike Locksley remembers his former player Isaiah Hazel.

“I can tell you that all three of these young men exemplify what Wise High School is all about,” Locksley said.

The three men in their early twenties were killed in a serious car crash around 3:15 a.m. last Saturday morning. Maryland State Police said they were traveling in a Dodge Charger northbound on Route 4 near the Presidential Parkway when Cori Clingman, who was driving too fast, struck them as they tried to change lanes. State police said alcohol may have played a role. No charges have been filed against Clingman.

“As a prosecutor, it is my job to ensure justice is done. I trust in your patience and faith in us and the ability to find the truth in this matter,” said Prince George’s County Prosecutor Aisha Braveboy.
