An Inland couple is mourning the death of their infant daughter as Arizona state authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of their four-month-old daughter, who lost consciousness on a boat on Lake Havasu on an unusually hot day.

The mother is Alyssa Wroblewski, according to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for funeral expenses. The father is Matthew Wroblewski, a Riverside police detective, the city said.

“Tanna Rae Wroblewski, our true angel, has become an angel in heaven. We are devastated and heartbroken; we are simply at a loss for words,” the GoFundMe post reads. “Enjoying a family day at the lake became the most unimaginable day of her life.”

The death occurred on July 5. Anita Mortensen, a spokeswoman for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, said the baby was taken to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center around 5 p.m. for treatment of a “heat-related illness.” He was later flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Detectives are currently conducting an investigation, Mortensen said.

Authorities have not charged anyone with a crime.

According to weatherunderground.com, the temperature at the time of the medical emergency was 47 degrees, below the day’s high of 49 degrees, and the wind was blowing at 20 mph. The average high temperature for that day and location is 43 degrees, according to the website. The National Weather Service had issued an extreme heat warning.

Further circumstances leading to the baby’s death were still unclear as of Friday, July 12. It was not publicly known whether the baby was already suffering from an illness, how the parents might have tried to cool him down and what the temperature was on the boat at the time.

A voice message was left on Matthew Wroblewski’s phone on Friday seeking comment.
