Fatal rollover accident in Waterford

A reported multi-vehicle accident south of Waterford on Friday evening resulted in one fatality and three other injuries.

Emergency calls came in around 9:41 p.m. about the accident, which closed traffic on Route 97 between Flatts Road and Wheelertown Road.

According to Erie County 911, the coroner has been called to the scene. A roadblock has been set up about a mile from the scene, so the coroner has not yet been seen.

The fire department is on site but cannot provide any further information at this time. However, initial reports from the scene of the accident indicate that a vehicle had overturned and patients were trapped inside.

State police said Route 97 is expected to be closed for hours and that a reconstruction team has been sent to the scene as the investigation is still in its early stages.
