A house fire in New Jersey leaves one dead, police officers and firefighters injured

A house fire Thursday in New Jersey’s Camden County left one person dead and several first responders hospitalized.

The fire occurred around 1:15 p.m. in Waterford Township, about 25 miles southeast of Philly. Five police officers and two firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.

The officers who rushed to help the deceased were taken to Virtua Health Hospital in Berlin with smoke inhalation injuries. Two of them were later transferred to Temple Hospital in Philadelphia.

The firefighters were treated at Virtua Voorhees Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the person who died in the home and the cause of the fire have not been released.

Overhead footage of the crime scene showed a portion of the home and an attached garage with significant damage. The fire was extinguished about half an hour after it was reported.

The deadly blaze came several months after a three-alarm blaze ripped through a Camden neighborhood and destroyed four homes.
