61-year-old hiker missing in San Bernardino National Forest found dead – Press Enterprise

A 61-year-old hiker who went missing on a trail in the San Bernardino National Forest was found dead in a ravine south of Whitewater with no signs of foul play, authorities said Friday.

The body of Hantae Kim of Chula Vista was discovered Wednesday next to a dry river channel at the bottom of a ravine near Snow Creek, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Lt. Deirdre Vickers told City News Service that officers received a report shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday that Kim had disappeared into steep mountain terrain during an excursion near Fuller Ridge, about two miles northeast of Idyllwild.

Vickers could not confirm whether Kim began his hike over the weekend or shortly before, alone or with a group.

According to the lieutenant, sheriff’s deputies initiated an air and ground search, using the department’s Rescue 9 helicopter, to locate the missing man.
