Uniontown shooting that killed father was a murder-for-hire plot, state police say – WPXI

UNIONTOWN, Pennsylvania — One year after a teenager murdered a man in Uniontown, police have arrested the man they say hired a 14-year-old to commit murder.

Last June, Anthony Jones was shot and killed outside a church in Uniontown one afternoon.

Police have arrested a 14-year-old. Investigators now report that a tip led them to Calvin Huffman, who allegedly hired the teenager.

Prosecutors said Huffman paid the teenager $5,000 and three bags of weed.

“I will seek the death penalty,” District Attorney Mike Aubele said at a press conference at the Uniontown State Police barracks. “The total disregard for human life is shocking.”

The teenager shot Jones multiple times after seeing the two together on the street.

“That afternoon, the already disadvantaged community witnessed an execution in broad daylight carried out by a teenager,” Aubele said. “Calvin Huffman, a man with a long history of violence, paid this teenager with cash and drugs to murder a human being to settle a dispute over narcotics.

The victim’s family told Channel 11 that Jones was popular with many children in the neighborhood and was against gun violence.

The prosecutor agreed.

“This crime had a profound impact on the East End community at the time it was committed. The effects are still felt today,” Aubele said.

The 14-year-old will be tried as an adult in the case. Both suspects are accused of murder.
