Man arrested after fatal three-vehicle crash in Tampa, police said

A Tampa man was arrested Friday after police say he caused a fatal three-vehicle crash while drunk last month.

Terrence Jenkins, 28, is charged with manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol, negligent homicide and aggravated traffic assault in connection with the June 22 accident, Tampa police said in a press release.

According to police, Jenkins was driving a Chrysler Pacifica near the 1900 block of North Dale Mabry Highway just before 3:30 a.m. that day when he “did not notice” a Volkswagen Jetta slowing down for a red light. Jenkins struck the Jetta, causing it to roll over. He also struck a Chrysler Town and Country that was already stopped at the light, the news release said.

A woman who was sitting in the back seat of the Jetta was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers in the Jetta were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released several days later. The passengers in the Town and Country were not injured, the press release said.

Jenkins showed signs of impairment at the scene and police obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. According to Tampa police, toxicology results showed his blood alcohol content was .126 – 1.5 times higher than the limit for impairment under state law.

Jenkins turned himself in Friday and was being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail, according to records. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
