One dead and two seriously injured after crash on Thursday afternoon

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 22-year-old Raytown woman died after a car accident in Caldwell County.

The crash was reported on Thursday, July 11. MO 116, three miles east of Lathrop.


According to reports, two children were also seriously injured in the accident.

According to MSHP, the accident occurred when the driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling westbound on MO 116 and attempted to pass another vehicle.

The driver of the Charger then lost control on the south side of the roadway, oversteered onto the north side of the roadway and struck a private driveway and a ditch, causing the vehicle to be thrown into the air.

The vehicle came to a stop off the north side of the roadway on the west-facing driver’s side.

The driver, identified as Ayrika N. Ross, was taken to Liberty Hospital by Caldwell County EMS and pronounced dead shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The two children, ages 7 and 8, were taken to Liberty Hospital by Tri-County EMS with serious injuries.

MSHP claims Ross was not wearing a safety device and the Charger was a total loss in the accident. It is unknown if the two children were wearing safety devices.
