New details after the arrest of Bo Hughley from Georgia football club

Georgia State football player Bo Hughley was arrested this week for reckless driving and failure to stay in his lane, and now we have more details about the incident.

According to On3 Sports, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening near Carlton Street at River Loop Road on the University of Georgia campus.

Hughley told the arresting officer that he was the driver of the car and that he was driving at the speed limit of 25 miles per hour. The report states that Hughley said he lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve.

Hughley failed to negotiate the curve properly, hit the curb on his right side, crossed a crosswalk, veered off the road, knocked over a speed limit sign and ran through grass and pine needles before coming to a stop back on the road, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

At the time of the incident, Hughley did not have his driver’s license with him, but gave the officer his name and date of birth and mentioned that he had had problems with his car before.

The officer stated in his report that the passenger tire was completely missing from the vehicle, that the front bumper was loose, and that there were pine needles stuck to the front of the vehicle.

The passenger in the car was rookie cornerback Ellis Robinson from Georgia. When questioned by the officer, he stated that Hughley was driving over the speed limit.

The officer believed Hughley was driving faster than he claimed, as there were nearly 200 feet of tire tracks. When a second officer arrived at the scene, he also concluded that the Bulldogs offensive lineman was likely driving faster than the speed limit.

Since the incident occurred in a pedestrian zone and the car was present as evidence, officers assumed there was sufficient suspicion that Hughley was responsible.

Georgia has not issued a statement on that incident or on Wednesday’s arrest of linebacker Smael Mondon for reckless driving and racing.

AJC reports that there have been 24 traffic-related incidents involving people from the Georgia football program since the accident that killed former player Devin Willock and recruiter Chandler LeCroy early last year.
