Police search Lamson Funeral Home in Maine for theft

Harold “Chip” Lamson, owner of Lamson Funeral Home, is being investigated for theft involving multiple victims, police said.

LINCOLN, Maine (AP) — Police said Thursday they are investigating the owner of a Maine funeral home for theft.

Harold “Chip” Lawson, who owns Lamson Funeral Home, misused funds from funeral homes established by the company, the Lincoln Police Department said in a statement. According to its website, the funeral home has locations in Lincoln, Millinocket and Danforth.

Police said they searched the funeral home’s Lincoln location on Lee Road and the Millinocket location on Tamarack Street.

“While the investigation is still in its early stages, Lamson is being investigated for theft by misappropriation of property,” Lincoln police said. “Although we have received reports from multiple victims, we suspect there may be others affected.

“As this is an ongoing criminal investigation, no further details will be released at this time.”

NEWS CENTER Maine left Lawson a message seeking comment on the allegations and will update this story if he responds. According to the funeral home’s website, he co-owns the business with his wife.

Police said people who victimized Lawson should reach out to them.
