A local man was arrested after three dead dogs were found in a U-Haul truck that “emanated a horrible odor,” police said.

William Cobb, 33, of Boston, was arrested Friday in Weymouth in connection with the Mattapan animal cruelty case.

Earlier this week, Boston police officers were dispatched to the first block of Edgewater Drive in Mattapan.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered an abandoned U-Haul truck emitting a horrible odor,” police said in a statement. “Officers opened the truck and discovered three dead dogs. Animal control was requested to come to the scene to recover the dogs.”

Insects were reportedly flying around the van, police said.
