Retired Kansas City police sergeant attacked outside downtown store

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A retired Kansas City police officer who now works in security says he is grateful to be alive.

The sergeant survived a brutal attack at Cosentino’s grocery store in downtown Kansas City on June 30 and turned to FOX4 to give his first interview since the attack.

“The suspect was involved in several incidents in the store, so I simply asked him to leave the store to protect the customers and staff,” said the retired sergeant.

The officer is recovering after surgery and 200 stitches to his head. Watch his full interview with Kathy Quinn in the video player.
