9 people shot, 1 dead, within 8 hours – NBC10 Philadelphia

At least one person was killed and several others, including children, were injured in shootings in Philadelphia that lasted for eight hours from Thursday night to Friday morning.

Here’s an analysis of the second consecutive night of violence in Philadelphia, in which multiple people were shot.

Toddler and 2 teenagers shot in North Philadelphia

The violent night began in North Philadelphia, where a 2-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were shot and killed along North 11th Street – near Master Street – shortly after 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, Philadelphia police said.

All three victims were shot in the legs and are expected to survive, Philadelphia Police Inspector Scott Small said. The toddler and the girl are related and live near where they were shot.

The search for a motive and for the perpetrator, who fired more than 30 shots over two blocks, is ongoing, Small said. It is not clear whether one of the teenagers was the intended target.

“We obviously don’t believe that someone would shoot a two-year-old,” Small said. “We also believe that the 15-year-old was hit by a ricochet.”

According to city police data, about 13 percent of the at least 667 shootings in Philadelphia this year involved children.

Man shot dead in Oxford Circle

Philadelphia police said officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the thigh in the area of 600 Frontenac Street in the Oxford Circle neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers took the man to the hospital, where he is being treated and is in stable condition, investigators said.

According to police, no one was arrested and no weapon was confiscated.

Man and woman shot dead in Port Richmond

Philadelphia police rushed to East Ann Street, near Tulip Street, around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, and found a woman in her 30s with a gunshot wound to the arm and a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the lower back, Small said.

Both victims were taken to the hospital where they are in stable condition, Small said.

At least eight shots were fired into a crowd of six to eight people, investigators said.

“The shooter fired several shots into the crowd,” Small said.

In the early hours of Friday morning, investigators were looking for clues that could help them find the shooter.

Man shot near SEPTA terminal in Frankfurt

Just before 3 a.m. Friday morning, a Philadelphia police officer heard several gunshots along Arrott Street, near Frankford Avenue in the Frankford neighborhood, and rushed in the direction of the shots, Small said.

The officer found a man in his twenties with a back bleed and a man believed to be the shooter.

The officer arrested the suspected shooter while the victim was taken to the hospital, where his condition was listed as critical.

Investigators found a firearm and searched surveillance video from the nearby SEPTA Market-Frankford Line Arrott Transportation Center in hopes of determining a motive for the shooting, Small said.

Man found with bleeding neck on Kensington Avenue

Police officers responded to a 911 call and found a man bleeding from his neck on the sidewalk in the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Friday, Small said.

Police took the unconscious man to the hospital, where he underwent surgery in critical condition Friday morning, Small said.

According to investigators, a gunman appeared to have shot the man at least once at close range.

Police hoped surveillance video would help them track down the shooter, Small said.

Man shot dead in West Philadelphia

Eventually, officers rushed to the intersection of South 55th Street and Sansom Street in West Philadelphia before 4:30 a.m. Friday morning and found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest, Small said.

Police said paramedics pronounced the unidentified man, believed to be in his twenties, dead a short time later.

Investigators found no evidence of a shooting at the scene and did not receive any calls about gunshots in the area, Small said.

Police hoped to find answers by analyzing surveillance video and other clues, Small said.

Despite recent nights of violence, the number of murders in Philadelphia has fallen by about 40% since the beginning of the year. As of Friday morning, 137 people had been killed in the city, according to data from the Philadelphia police.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact them online or through the tip line at 215-686-8477.
