State police investigate fatal police-involved shooting in Calcasieu Parish

SULPHUR, LA (KATC) — Louisiana State Police officials are investigating a shooting involving an officer and one person died at the scene.

No officers were injured.

According to LSP, this happened shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of South Kent Street. The identity has not yet been released.

The incident began shortly before 3 p.m. when officers were called to a disturbance, according to a post on the Sulphur Police Department’s Facebook page, which you can find here. When officers arrived, a man, possibly armed, ran away.

Sulphur officials said at that point, the barricades were closed and a search for the suspect was initiated. Officers reported finding him in a nearby shed just after 5:20 p.m. After a struggle, shots were fired, fatally striking the man.

The incident is currently being investigated by detectives. Anyone with information, images or videos is asked to contact detectives from LSP Troop D.
