Fort Worth Police Investigate Police-Involved Shooting – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Fort Worth police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday evening at the corner of NW 28th Street and McKinley Avenue.

At around 5 p.m., Fort Worth police received a report of a stolen vehicle and began a pursuit.

According to police, the driver rammed an officer’s car while trying to escape and then drove off uncontrollably. The officers then decided to use nails to stop the driver.

According to FWPD, the driver crashed at the corner of McKinley and NW 28th Street at that point, got out with a long gun in his hand and stole another vehicle, firing shots at the suspect.

According to police, the driver got out of the second vehicle and pointed the gun at the store. After officers fired more shots, the driver was hit and fell to the ground. He was arrested and taken to medical care. His condition is stable.

Chief Neil Noakes said it was important to remember innocent civilians throughout this series of events.

“This is another example of how unpredictable and dangerous a police officer’s job can be. You never know when you’re going to encounter someone with a gun, and you never know what someone might do with that gun,” Nokes said.

“…And when you’re in a place like this, where there are innocent civilians and anything could be in the background, you have to be careful when you shoot, knowing what’s behind the threat you’re trying to stop,” he continued.”

Fort Worth police issued an update on Thursday evening regarding the use of a firearm by an officer. No officers or civilians were injured.

Police Chief Neil Noakes told NBC 5 that the first tip about the first stolen car came through the Flock camera system.

The driver’s name was not released.

No one else was injured and all officers involved are fine.
