KANSAS CITY, Mo. β€” A 22-year-old woman who was shot in her car at a Kansas City gas station last Thursday has yet to receive justice. The QuikTrip, with 31st and Southwest Boulevard is now a memorial to Tykeedra Henderson, who was killed in the early hours of July 4.

Police have declined to release surveillance footage of the incident or even a still image showing who pulled the trigger, citing an ongoing investigation. But Faye Alford is worried because her granddaughter’s killer is still at large.

“She just wanted gas. Who would have thought?” Alford said.

“Why would they do that? Why would they shoot guns? They just shoot indiscriminately and you know you’re going to hit something.”

More than 60 people gathered in a side parking lot with balloons and T-shirts with Henderson’s face on them while her uncle led them in prayer, saying, “We thank you, Lord, for the time we were able to spend with her. Now let her bring a smile to all the other angels up there in heaven.”

A handful of people, including her mother, uncle, cousin, best friend and grandmother, wanted to share memories of Henderson.

“She had this wrinkled smile and this picture doesn’t do her justice,” Alford said.

Described by many as a low-key, smart, and family-loving person, Henderson was planning to become a radiology technician in the fall, but her family is now planning her funeral on Saturday, July 20 instead.

“She was just enjoying life and doing things that a 22-year-old would normally do,” added Sha Neisha Williams, a cousin.

β€œShe was a good person and we will all remember her.”

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information regarding this murder submitted to the TIPS hotline.
