Hammer attack: Family attacked in robbery, wife and son killed | Raipur News

Raipur: Unidentified assailants attacked three members of a family with a hammer, killing a woman and her eldest son in Jagdalpur town, headquarters of Bastar, about 350 km from Raipur. The younger son, who was injured and is undergoing treatment, was found tied up in the bathroom, said CSP Pushkar Sharma. “Prima facie, it appears that the murders were committed because the family members resisted the accused, who had come to steal, as household items were found scattered. We are investigating four to five aspects, including theft and family disputes, in connection with the murder,” Sharma said. The deceased woman’s younger son, Nitesh Gupta, aged between 30 and 35, who is currently hospitalised with injuries, informed the police that four persons had forcefully entered their house late at night to rob a nearby house. When Nitesh woke up and raised the alarm, he was overpowered, tied up and beaten up by the attackers. Hearing the commotion, his mother Gayatri Gupta, around 55-60 years old, and elder brother Nilesh Gupta, around 35 years old, rushed to his aid but were fatally attacked by the intruders with hammers. Both succumbed to their injuries on the spot while the attackers fled the scene, Bastar Police Commissioner Saurabh Sinha said. Nitesh Gupta’s statement brought to light the gruesome details of the incident, the SP said. Gayatri Gupta ran a grocery shop called Nilesh Kirana opposite her house. “We are investigating the case from all angles. Forensic evidence has been collected and sent for examination. We are awaiting the post-mortem report of the woman and her elder son. We will further question the younger son,” the SP said. Both Nilesh and Nitesh were unmarried, the SP added. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the crime and further details will be clear after the post-mortem reports of the deceased, he said.
