Woman attacked on towpath in Akron, Ohio

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron police are investigating after a woman said she was attacked while jogging on the towpath.

It happened on June 28 near West Bartges Street.

According to Sergeant Mike Murphy, a 25-year-old woman was walking along the trail at night when she encountered a man, but no interaction occurred.

“There were no problems or interactions at all. The second time she passed him, he grabbed her and wrestled her to the ground,” Murphy said.

Fortunately, a man walking along the towpath saw the two lying on the ground and chased the suspect away.

“The description is: white male, 17 to 19 years old, 5’5 to 5’7 tall, brown hair, clean shaven,” Murphy said.

Police said it was a random attack at this stage, but they have increased patrols in the towpath area to search for the suspect.
