Police say women were arrested after being found unconscious with children in a Myrtle Beach hotel room

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Two women were arrested this week after they were found unconscious in a hotel room with children during a family vacation, according to Myrtle Beach police.

According to records, 37-year-old Jennifer Hutchins and 29-year-old Kaylee Vanoster were arrested Tuesday and charged with child neglect.

According to a police report obtained by WMBF News, an officer was called to the Bermuda Sands Hotel on North Ocean Boulevard on Tuesday after two unresponsive adults were reported in a room.

When the officer arrived, five minor victims were standing at the door, saying Hutchins and Vanoster were “not awake” and “needed help.”

People in another room reportedly told the officer that the children had knocked on their door for help.

Documents state that the officer then saw Hutchins and Vanoster lying on a bed, both “appearing unresponsive and under the influence of a narcotic.” The officer then asked Vanoster if she and Hutchins had eaten any food containing THC. The report states that she then “nodded her head.”

Both women are said to have lost consciousness “again and again” and were unable to stay awake to answer further questions from the police. The emergency services were called to the scene.

The children then told the officer that they saw Vanoster and Hutchins consuming an unknown substance from a pink bag. They added that this had happened before. The report also states that the two women were on a family vacation and were caring for the victims alone.

“There were no other adults or guardians present to care for the victims,” the report states. “Due to the level of intoxication of both perpetrators, they were unable to care for the victims.”

According to records, both women were taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail after their arrests on Tuesday. As of Thursday, Hutchins has been held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $20,000 bail.
