Relief campaigns to obtain free food, water, ice or supplies

As a massive power outage continues, many hurricane victims are running out of non-perishable food, water and other basic necessities.

HOUSTON — The following organizations are distributing food, water, ice or supplies to Hurricane Beryl victims in the Houston area.

Distribution campaigns on Thursday, July 11

District 1, Walmart and Universoul Circus

Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen’s office is partnering with Walmart and Universoul ️ to distribute water at multiple locations across Houston.

Acres Homes: 4-5 p.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 6616 DS Bailey Houston

Acres Homes: 4-5 p.m. at Cliftdale Missionary Baptist Church

Greenspoint 6pm – 7pm at Harvest Time Church, 1770 Imperial Valley Dr.

Academy in Missouri City

Beginning at 1 p.m., Academy Sports + Outdoors in Missouri City will be giving away 24-packs of free bottled water — while supplies last — to help those impacted by the local water boil order caused by Hurricane Beryl.

Customers can look for the 18-wheeler truck parked in front of the store to pick up their free case of bottled water (no purchase necessary). Academy will donate nearly 1,600 24-packs of water in total to residents of Missouri City and the surrounding area.

Distribution campaigns on Friday, July 12

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets and Toyota Center are hosting a drive-thru food and water distribution event outside Toyota Center starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12.

Meal kits, water, fruit, snacks and other relief items, including Reliant Energy chargers, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Cars will line up at the intersection of Polk and La Branch streets for the drive-thru event.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is being hosted in partnership with Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, the American Red Cross of the Texas Gulf Coast Region, Pepsi, Reliant Energy, Second Servings of Houston and Cotton Global Disaster Solutions.

Houston Housing Authority Procurement Campaign

The Houston Housing Authority (HHA) is committed to supporting the community with a free community resource campaign and a partnership offering utility bill relief.

This resource drive is open to the entire Houston community, providing essential supplies such as food, water, ice, MREs, fresh produce, cleaning and disinfecting supplies, and more.

HHA aims to serve at least 1,000 Houston families at the free event, which will take place Friday, July 12, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at HHA’s central office, 2640 Fountain View Drive, 77057.

Additionally, many residents lost their jobs due to the storm. HHA is also partnering with the Gulf Coast Community Services Association to provide critical financial assistance for utility bills.

Catholic Charities on Saturday, July 13

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will provide food, water and cleaning supplies to individuals and families recovering from Hurricane Beryl. A drive-thru distribution will be held on Saturday July 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.. at the agency’s headquarters in 2900 Louisiana Street in Houston.

Counselors will be on hand to meet with anyone experiencing extreme trauma as a result of the hurricane, and prayer resources will be available upon request.

Limited financial assistance will be available starting next week by applying online. Check Catholic Charities’ social media pages and website for more details.

Mamie George Community Center in 1111 Collins Road in Richmond will be open on Friday July 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. to serve as a cooling center for those seeking respite from the heat.

The bread of Life

Bread of Life in downtown Houston will host another drive-thru distribution event on Saturday, July 20. from 8 a.m. to noon in coordination with its third annual Back to School event at St. John’s United Methodist Church at 2019 Crawford St.

Items are provided on a first come, first served basis.

  • Non-perishable foods such as canned, boxed and bagged goods
  • Water
  • Hygiene items such as toothbrushes, soap, wipes, disinfectant,
  • Disaster relief items, such as flashlights and first aid kits
  • School supplies like notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, glue, and backpacks.
