A shooting late Monday night/early Tuesday near 16th and Mission Streets resulted in a four-car crash and one fatality.

The shooting between multiple people occurred around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on Mission Street between 16th and 17th streets. According to Mission Local, police arrived at the scene at 12:17 a.m. and found one person dead from a gunshot wound. Police Chief Bill Scott said two other people were injured in the shooting, with at least one person driving themselves to the hospital.

Chief Scott spoke about the shooting at a police commission meeting on Wednesday; it had not been previously reported.

“Multiple cartridge cases of different calibers were found, indicating that different types of weapons were used,” Scott said, according to Mission Local.

This was the 18th murder in San Francisco this year. During the same period last year, there were 28 murders in the city, according to the authority.
