St. Martin Parish inmate dies after medical emergency

St. Martinville, Louisiana (KLFY) – An inmate at St. Martin Parish Correctional Center has died following a medical emergency early Thursday morning.

Accordingly Sheriff of the Parish of St. Martin Becket Breaux, correctional officers at St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, were conducting routine security checks around 2 a.m. Thursday morning when they discovered that one of the inmates, 61-year-old Alvin Pete of Breaux Bridge, suffered a medical incident.

Officers performed life-saving measures and transported Pete to a local hospital for further treatment. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The official cause of death is pending autopsy results.
