Third suspect arrested in connection with the shooting of an 18-year-old in Joliet in 2021

JOLIET, ILLINOIS. Three years after the shooting death of an 18-year-old in Joilet, police have charged a third suspect in connection with his murder after tracking him down in the Pacific Northwest.

Aidan Marquez-Martinez, 30, of Bolingbrook, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated use of a weapon after police conducted a “comprehensive investigation” into the death of 18-year-old Jwaun Jones in April 2021.


WGN News reported that officers called to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center after the April 4, 2021, shooting learned that Jones was injured while riding as a passenger in a car near Western Avenue and North Bluff Street.

Jones later died in hospital.

In late February of this year, Joilet police obtained an arrest warrant for Marquez-Martinez. Almost two months later, on April 21, U.S. Marshals arrested him in Portland, Oregon.

Marquez-Martinez was extradited to Illinois on Wednesday, July 10.

Bail information was not made available. Police arrested two people in connection with Jones’ death shortly after the fatal shooting: Paola Diaz and Adrian Bibian II.
