Man arrested after wife, in-laws and young son shot in Alameda home; second child seriously injured

A man allegedly shot his wife, her parents and one of his young sons, as well as a second young son who was in critical condition, in a home in Alameda on Wednesday evening, police said.

Alameda police said a resident of the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road called 911 and told officers his neighbor had been shot.

Officers arrived at the scene and found one of the victims. Police then searched the victim’s home and found several family members who had been shot.

Three of the victims died at the scene of the accident, two others were taken to hospital.

“This is a tragic and sad incident,” Alameda Police Chief Nishant Joshi told reporters at a press conference Thursday morning. “And I tell you, these are the actions of a coward. I know what happened, I have an idea of ​​what happened, and the actions of this person are those of a coward.”

Joshi said that after the gunshot wound, the father-in-law asked a neighbor for help to call 911. When officers arrived, they found the father-in-law outside the house. He made statements to officers before he died.

“The father-in-law made some statements. We are still trying to verify them and understand what was said,” Joshi said. “Our officers wear body-worn cameras. I am not sure if they recorded this conversation.”

In a press release, police said officers had “seized several firearms and important evidence.”

Police also stated that there was no information indicating an ongoing threat to the public.
