HOUSTON (KIAH) – It’s Thursday, July 11, and many Houstonians are still without power and, understandably, extremely frustrated and exhausted. But we are true Houstonians and we will get through this together, as we always do.

With more than a million people still without power, the big question is when the lights will come back on. Host Maggie Flecknoe goes straight to the source to get the latest from CenterPoint Energy on today’s show.


We’ll hear from the mayor, who asks for patience and understanding as crews work around the clock to restore power. But he also wants to make sure everyone is aware of the resources that are available to them. Stay tuned for great resources and more on Houston Happens!

Children’s Meals Inc.

In the aftermath of the storm, Kids’ Meals Inc. has been a lifeline for many children and their families. It is the only organization in the country providing meals FREEhealthy meals for preschoolers. Now more than ever, they need our help.

Houston Food Bank

It’s been a tough week, but we’re doing it and we’re doing it together! 713 DAY is coming soon, so we are delighted to be joined by Kathy Lipman from the Houston Food Bank and Brian Ching of the Houston Dynamo. These two incredible organizations helped our city recover from the storm, and they’re going to tell us how we can all help them, too.

Houston Botanical Garden

713 DAY It’s time to celebrate H-Town! The Houston Botanic Garden is offering discounted admissions in honor of the day, and it could really benefit from ticket sales after the cleanup from Hurricane Beryl. The garden was closed for a few days after the hurricane, but has now reopened with some minor changes. Staff had to clear away debris and fallen trees, but were able to save most of the plants. Justin Lacey join us to learn more about the celebration and how we can help.
