Libs of TikTok has apparently used its platform to celebrate a video in which a person claims that their grandfather threw them to the ground because they used the pronouns “they”/“them.”

Founder Chaya Raichik’s right-wing social media account has once again sparked controversy, this time over a video posted by an unknown account.

The 18-second clip shows a person crying and lying on the ground, with the following text on screen: “I just got put in a headlock and thrown to the ground by my grandpa for asking to be called she/her.”

Libs from TikTok captioned the reposted video with “based Grandpa” and a “fire” emoji.

In colloquial use, the term “based” generally expresses approval or admiration of a person or thing.

A comment under the post reads “that never happened,” to which Raichik replied, “You’re probably right.”

People criticized the account’s post, with one person writing, “This was never about protecting children. Chaya Raichik just wants LGBTQ+ people to be attacked.”

Someone else pointed out how contradictory the post seemed, given that TikTok’s liberals claim to protect children, and another said, “This is a new low for you.”

Although TikTok has a right-wing image for liberals, even Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has targeted the group in the past. In March, he accused the group of “lying” about Florida state laws in a post he said was intended to “generate clicks and engagement.”

The account had previously targeted institutions, events and individuals who later reported threats to the police. Raichik is not accused of making threats himself.
