Three dead after wrong-way driver accident on I-29 in Platte County

PLATTE COUNTY, Missouri – Shortly after midnight Thursday, three people died in a wrong-way driving accident in Platte County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Ford Edge was traveling north on I-29 in the southbound lanes near Maple Leaf Ave.


The Ford then collided head-on with a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The Honda veered off the right side of the road and hit a concrete barrier. There were seven passengers in the vehicle.

Three occupants of the Honda died from their injuries. They were identified as 52-year-old Michelet Metellus, 54-year-old Sheyla Similien and 55-year-old Joel Similien.

All three victims were from Kansas City, Missouri.

The four other passengers were taken to hospital. Three of them had moderate to severe injuries, one person was uninjured.

The driver of the Ford Edge was arrested and is being treated in hospital. His condition is currently unknown.
