Tomato truck incident on Interstate 5 in California

A truck hauling tomatoes was involved in an accident on Interstate 5 near Patterson that resulted in it overturning and spilling, according to the California Department of Transportation. The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. near the Sperry Avenue/Diablo Grande Parkway exit and resulted in the closure of both northbound lanes, which are expected to reopen around 1 p.m.

The exact cause of the accident is unclear, but a semi-trailer loaded with tomatoes ended up on its side and blocked both lanes of northbound I-5 for a time.

To mitigate the impact, Caltrans crews cleared the median divider of tomatoes so it can now temporarily be used as a northbound lane.
