Investigation finds driver not at fault in fatal pedestrian crash in Huttonsville – WAJR

HUTTONSVILLE, West Virginia. – An investigation into the fatal crash of a pedestrian in the parking lot of the Huttonsville ParMar determines it was an accident and no charges will be filed against the driver.

Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon said around 1:52 a.m., 41-year-old Debbie Bennett was walking near Route 250, wearing headphones, using her phone and facing her back to traffic. Bennett stepped into the roadway as a vehicle was passing and was struck.

The driver told investigators that there was no way to avoid Bennett by swerving.

The investigation revealed that the driver was not impaired but had consumed alcohol before the accident.
