A man who raped a ten-year-old girl and sexually abused a little boy has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Ryan Brown, 35, assaulted the girl, who was in his care at a property in Drongan, East Ayrshire, between November 2019 and March 2020.

The court heard how Brown abused the boy at a disused railway station in Drongan between April 2011 and 2013, when he was between four and six years old.

Passing sentence at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lord Colbeck said Brown committed all of his offences against children in his care while he was in a position of trust.

“Position of trust”

The indictment alleges that Mr. Brown persuaded his victims to perform sexual acts.

Brown, of Drongan, was found guilty by a jury.

Judge Lord Colbeck said: “They deny the offences and accept no responsibility.”

“In these cases, I have to assess the question of guilt and in doing so I look at the question of guilt at the relevant point in time.

“Every time you committed an offence, it was against children in your care and you were in a position of trust.

“I need to assess the damage you have caused.”

He said that according to the girl’s statements, she suffered psychological damage and trauma that continues to this day.

“There is no other way to deal with you than to remand you in custody for a long period of time,” the judge said.

“This is to punish and publicly disapprove of your behavior.”

It was revealed that there were three similar convictions against Brown in 2007 and 2008.

However, he has never served a prison sentence and has never appeared before the Supreme Court.

Defense attorney Gail Gianni said at the hearing that her client maintained his innocence.
