MANILA, Philippines – National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Chairman Franklin Quijano has been provisionally suspended for 90 days due to allegations of gross neglect of duty and serious misconduct, Malacañang confirmed Thursday.

“Yes, po,” Cheloy Garafil, secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), said in a message to INQUIRER.net when asked about Quijano’s suspension.

No further details were disclosed.

However, last month it was reported that five of six NCSC commissioners, namely Mary Jean Loreche, Edwin Espejo, Reymar Mansilungan, Rainier Cruz and Enriqueta Rodeles, had called on Quijano to resign.

The five commissioners said on June 21 that they had informed Malacañang about the incidents against Quijano.

Rodolfo Ordanes, a Senior Citizens party-list lawmaker and chairman of the House Senior Citizens Committee, supported the move to exclude Quijano as head of the NCSC.
