Arkansas man returns home after 6 months of rehab following car accident

After six months of rehab, Colt Musteen is back in Arkansas, where his family welcomed him with warm hugs. Despite everything, he has not lost his positive attitude.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. – We told you the story of the Musteen family in December 2023 after Colt Musteen was hit by a car while jogging before Christmas.

The community came together to support the Musteen family during this difficult time, and Colt Musteen has been recovering in a rehabilitation facility in Colorado ever since.

Six months later, he is finally back home with his wife and eight children, who greeted him with signs and hugs.

“It was nice to come home and see kids you would never have seen again,” said Colt Musteen. “It’s a surreal experience to come back to your life… you get a second chance to be in a different body and take care of them.”

Just before Christmas, Colt Musteen was jogging in Saline County when he was hit by a car, damaging his spine and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

Despite all this, Colt Musteen has not lost his positive attitude or his sense of humor.

When asked what he remembered from that tragic moment, he replied: “Being hit by a car or jogging? Because both are terrible.”

Colt Musteen said he was grateful the driver stopped and called 911.

The saying “It takes a village” came true for this family. Several people from Saline County and the Musteen Church congregation provided food and assistance during Colt Musteen’s absence.

“We are so blessed,” said Bristen Musteen, Colt’s wife. “We could go through this alone, but we’re not. We could go through this without the resources, but we’re not.”

Colt Musteen is now getting used to a new routine at home and showing those around him that life is precious and should be enjoyed every minute of it.

“I get asked a lot, ‘Are you upset? Are you angry?’ Not at all… not even a little bit,” said Colt Musteen. “I forgive the person who hit me. This is ultimately a humiliating experience, but I also know that I am invincible now. I mean, I survived… has anyone else been hit by a car and looked this good doing it?”
