Six weeks after the murder of a Minneapolis artist, the community is searching for answers

“Who would shoot Malacai?” asked the KMOJ DJ in disbelief in the radio station’s studio in north Minneapolis. According to Dolla, Malacai was a hard-working, kind father and artist whose potential was only limited by the sky.

Malacai’s personality is a big reason why the DJ spent the following weeks demanding justice on his late-night show Double OG Radio.

“He was an attentive, caring father,” Dolla said.

“The person who did this was evil.”

Bailey’s mother, Annaka Haynes, says every day has been a struggle since she lost her son.

“My son was not a gang member, he did not carry a gun, he was none of those things,” she said tearfully in an Eden Prairie park.

“My son had no enemies, so this doesn’t make sense,” said Malacai’s father, Daunte Bailey, adding that Malacai was the kind of kid who would do anything to make someone laugh.
