Teacher: Teacher arrested for raping 10-year-old girl | News from Bhubaneswar

Kendrapada: A 58-year-old teacher of a secondary primary school in Kendrapada district was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday. The girl’s mother filed a complaint at the local police station on Wednesday alleging that teacher Pramod Kumar Rath raped her daughter, a Class 5 student, after calling her to another room after classes were over on the pretext of bringing her some books. The accused later threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about the act. The act came to light on Wednesday when the girl told her mother that she was suffering from stomach pain and narrated her ordeal. “Based on the complaint, we investigated and found that the teacher had raped the girl. He was arrested under Sections 74 and 75 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and Section 10 of the Pocso Act 2012. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime. “Both the girl and the teacher were medically examined on Wednesday,” said Kisor Tarei, the officer investigating the case. The accused teacher was produced in court on Wednesday, which rejected his bail application and remanded him in custody, the officer said.
