Bridge transported to Buffalo by boat will arrive in Baldwinsville tonight

Baldwinsville, NY — A pedestrian bridge transported to Buffalo by boat will arrive in Baldwinsville tonight.

At 6 a.m. the boat left Sylvan Beach and entered Oneida Lake. It reached Brewerton at Lock 23 at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The tug and barge system that will deliver the bridge will arrive at Baldwinsville Lock 24 at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.

The lock is located right in the center of the village. This will be the easiest access point for viewing and the closest place for Syracuse residents to see the bridge, according to the list of observation points.

Carver Companies will deliver the bridge to Buffalo’s Ralph Wilson Park. The company is posting updates on arrival times on its Facebook and Instagram pages.

The 266-foot bridge was originally built in Italy, spanning the ocean and up the Hudson River to the Erie Canal. When it is installed this fall, it will provide a new pedestrian entrance to Ralph Wilson Park across I-190 from Fourth Street.

The 81-metre pedestrian bridge was built last year by international company Cimolai at a factory in Italy, an hour north of Venice.
