Houston County High School Career Camp | WDHN

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — High school students in the Houston County school system are getting an early look at potential careers and hands-on experience to help shape their futures before entering the workforce.

Between 50 and 60 students from the district participate in a week-long summer career exploration camp each day.

This allows students in grades 7 and 8 to experience what the career academy has to offer. Not only do they hear about classes they might attend when they are older, but they also get hands-on activities, such as building robots in the engineering department, building billboards in the education department, learning things in the health department like how to insert an IV, and much more.

Academy officials said career exploration is important and valuable for middle school students so they can better know what they like when they get to high school.
