Fulton prosecutor’s lawsuit settlement could ease Atlanta prison overcrowding – WABE

According to the ACLU, as of October 2023, 37% of inmates in the Fulton County Jail were still behind bars without being charged. Although the jail population has since declined, the ACLU of Georgia has also accused the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office of not enforcing a rule regarding uncharged people being held for serious crimes for 45 days.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Fallon McClure, deputy director of policy and advocacy at the ACLU of Georgia, and legal director Cory Isaacson show how a lawsuit settlement with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is a step toward solving the overcrowding problem at the Rice Street Detention Center.
