Man arrested for arson in Hemingway’s house after altercation

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Officials in Williamsburg County arrested a man Wednesday for allegedly burning down a home in Hemingway.

William Andrew Seay, 37, was arrested and charged with second- and third-degree arson, according to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 30, emergency services responded to a home on South State Highway 41/51 where they found a house engulfed in flames. Investigators determined that the situation began when a person set fire to items in a barn near the home, which led to an altercation between the people at the scene.

Seay then entered the house on the property with a gas cylinder and set it on fire. He left the property and later returned where officers arrested him.

The State Law Enforcement Division’s Arson Unit, along with the Hemingway Fire Department, Georgetown County Fire Department, Williamsburg Country Fire Department and Johnsonville Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the flames and securing the scene.

The investigation into this case is ongoing.
