Vermont prison warden placed on leave pending investigation into misconduct

WATERBURY, Vermont (WCAX) – The warden of a Vermont prison has been placed on leave following allegations of misconduct.

The Vermont Department of Corrections says Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility warden Sharon Nykiel is on paid leave, which is standard practice, while the Department of Human Resources investigates.

Officials said Deputy Warden Michael Dounetos will oversee operations at Rutland Prison until an interim warden is appointed.

Prison officials did not elaborate on the nature of the allegations of misconduct.
