First responders rescue child and man in drowning accident on Wednesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A man in his late 50s and a 10-year-old child were pulled from the water near mile marker 215 around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Emergency responders say the child was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in good condition. The man’s condition is currently unknown.

Chief Urban of the CCFD told 3NEWS that lifeguards were conducting training exercises on the beach when they noticed a child floating in the water near the third sandbar, a good distance from shore.

Lifeguards went out to receive the child in the water when they saw the man floating in the water who needed to be rescued. CCFD and the lifeguards attempted to resuscitate the man before he was transported to a local hospital.

The relationship between the child and the man is currently unknown. According to CCFD, it is unclear if another guardian was present when the child was taken to the hospital for observation.

Nueces County ESD 2 was also on scene to assist with the rescue. Police Chief Wes Beseda said the child was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in good condition and in good health.
