DJ Yesong appeals 10-year prison sentence after fatal car crash while driving under the influence of alcohol

DJ Yesong (24, Ahn Ye Song), who was sentenced to ten years in prison for causing a fatal accident in Gangnam, Seoul, while driving while drunk, has filed an appeal.

Ahn’s lawyer, Ahn Wang Seon from the Dongsuhnam Law Firm, filed the appeal with Judge on July 10 Kim Ji-Young the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, which presided over the case. The court had sentenced Ahn Ye Song to 10 years in prison the previous day.

The court stated: “The victim of the first accident testified that the defendant (Ahn Ye Song) got out of the car immediately after the accident and said, “Do I look like I’ve been drinking a lot? Please just look past that for once.” She made no effort to process the accident and did not report it to the police.

In addition, the court stated: “Although she was required to remain at the scene of the accident, she left without explanation. She did not take the necessary protective measures required by traffic regulations and fled the scene of the accident, showing intent to flee..”

The court further noted: “Although she claimed she had no memory of the accident, dashcam footage showed her speaking to the victim. However, she denies the allegations related to rescue efforts with implausible excuses. There are also doubts as to whether she truly feels remorse..”

The court stated: “The victim of the second accident eventually died. Although the grieving family agreed not to seek punishment, the victim could not express his own will as he had already died..”

Ahn Ye Song was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content of 0.221% at around 4:40 a.m. on February 3. She collided with a motorcycle in front of her, causing the death of the motorcyclist. The 50-year-old delivery man was taken to hospital with cardiac arrest but did not survive.

The investigation revealed that shortly before this fatal accident, Ahn Ye Song had caused another traffic accident and fled the scene. She was arrested at the scene of the accident and the court issued an arrest warrant on the grounds that there was a risk of her fleeing.

In a trial in June, prosecutors demanded a 15-year prison sentence for Ahn.

The public prosecutor stated: “She caused two fatal traffic accidents while under the influence of alcohol. Strict penalties are needed to protect society and families from harm caused by drunk driving..”

In contrast, Ahn’s defense emphasized that an agreement had been reached with the grieving family and asked for leniency.

Ahn’s lawyer emphasized: “She has exceptional talent in the entertainment field and has promoted national prestige through performances in China, Thailand and Taiwan. She has reflected deeply on her actions and submitted 75 letters of apology.
