Double shooting on Red Bank River Street: One person dies, another injured

RED BANK – Authorities say a homicide investigation is underway on River Street.

The Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office released a Statement on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that one person was killed and another was injured in a double shooting in the 100-block of the street early Wednesday.

The State Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Bureau has joined the Red Bank Police Department’s investigation.

The District Attorney’s Office urges anyone with information about the crime to call Detective Kayla Santiago of the District Attorney’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Detective Mike Zadlock of the Red Bank Police Department at 732-530-2700.

The office is also asking people to avoid the area.

A post on the borough’s Facebook page informed residents Wednesday morning of an increased police presence on the street due to a homicide investigation. The post said a suspect had not yet been arrested, but there was no danger to the public.

Neighbours gathered at the scene of the accident at around 10:30am on Wednesday, but River Street was closed from Leighton Avenue and the area was cordoned off by police. The neighbourhood is residential, with Red Bank Primary School just down the road. The street was reopened to traffic on Wednesday afternoon.
