Over 200 heat-related deaths investigated in Maricopa County

If a death is listed as “under investigation,” it means the county coroner suspects a heat-related death.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Arizona – More than 200 deaths since July 9 are currently being investigated by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office as possibly heat-related, according to county data.

As of July 9, Maricopa County has confirmed 14 heat-related deaths in 2024. Nine of the 14 deaths are heat-related and five of the 14 are heat-related. 234 deaths are under investigation.
