Riverton man arrested after woman found dead in burning home

CASPER, Wyo. — Riverton police have arrested a man last month in connection with a house fire in which a woman was found dead.

Vurnon Doney, 55, of Riverton, was arrested at his home and charged with involuntary manslaughter, Riverton police announced in a news release on May 9. Doney was booked into the Fremont County Jail on the warrant.

911 dispatchers at the Riverton 911 Center received the call around 2:20 a.m. April 26 in the 1300 block of East Main Street. The caller reported that a woman was trapped in the burning house.

The victim was later identified as 48-year-old Eve Newton of Riverton and autopsy results are pending, police said Thursday.

Investigators were called in after signs of accelerant were found in the apartment.

Doney is presumed innocent unless he proves his guilt or pleads guilty.
