MPD: Man arrested for stealing Uber driver’s phone in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON (DC News now) – The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it arrested a man Wednesday evening for stealing his rideshare driver’s cellphone.

The man requested a ride from Uber around 8:30 p.m. While in the car, MPD said, 21-year-old Jahlen Womack became angry with the driver because he believed he was driving the wrong way.

According to a police report, Womack said, “Stop the car or I’ll kill you” and forced him to stop. The driver complied with the request and got out.

Womack pursued the driver on foot in the 1200 block of 18th Street NW. He forced the driver to the ground, punched him several times, grabbed his phone and drove away.

Womack was later arrested and charged with robbery (force and violence).
