Dead man’s thumb severed and used to access Cash App, police say – WFTV

WASHINGTON — A man was found dead in his Washington, D.C., apartment with stab wounds, head trauma and missing his right thumb. Two women are now facing murder charges.

Police said Fasil Teklemariam’s body was found on April 5, days after a woman entered the building with him, WRC reported. Witnesses told police Teklemariam was one of the suspect’s “sugar daddies.”

The Washington Post reported that Teklemariam was killed days before he was found.

Teklemariam’s phone left his apartment on April 1, the Post reported.

The last call was made in College Park, Maryland, near the home of one of the suspects, WRC reported.

Surveillance video captured Tiffany Gray and Audrey Miller and two men entering and leaving Teklemariam’s apartment after he was last seen. Police said the group was observed removing his belongings from the home, WTOP reported. The men were not named and they were not arrested.

Police said they linked Gray to Teklemariam’s death after finding a report he filed in October accusing Gray of stealing $1,8000 from his payment apps. A third attempt to steal $325 was not processed.

Both Miller and Gray are charged with first-degree murder, WUSA reported.

Witnesses told police that Gray used the man’s thumb to pay for Uber, drugs and alcohol, WTOP and WRC reported.

Police said both the victim’s thumb and cell phone were missing and had not been found.
